It’s getting dark out there, isn’t it? Just a little?
That’s to be expected. It’s that time of year, after all. Time for this mess to give way to the slow decay of fall before winter brings another cycle to its close. Most of us spend forever looking for a place we belong, not realizing we ourselves may be our one and only refuge. Our strangeness and the things that set us apart are perhaps what makes the monotony of this place bearable. In our oddness and separation, we sometimes find the only way to feel whole. And it isn’t what they say it’s going to be. No, it’s not like warm rays of sunlight on a summer day; it’s not that ninety-degrees-even-in-the-shade feeling of being the most loved or the most cherished. It’s the opposite, in fact. It’s knowing that you can sometimes count the number of people you may consider your tribe or family on one hand. It’s understanding that the things you are – the things that make you YOU – are not for everyone, nor should they be. But what if you could find the ones who UNDERSTOOD these precious things? What if they all got together and made a point to cherish the strangeness in each little soul? What if they created something stronger than the brittle connections forged by birthright and obligation? People who all chose one another of their own free will. What about that? Something is coming. Something is happening, and the family wants you to be here for it. Will you join us? |
